(splice-crackle) (CNN, Nov. 27 1995) Reporter: Digital Equipment Corporation has settled its patent infringement suit against Intel Corporation this week. Intel conceeded on all points, publicly admitted to using DEC's technology without paying licensing fees, and has agreed to punitive licensing. Under this agreement, Intel will pay a flat, undisclosed, fee for each chip sold that used DEC's technologies, as well as a fine estimated at $16 million. Osaka Naru, DEC's CEO, had this to say: (cut to some hallway. One might recognize it as outside of the cleanroom of Fab 6 in Hudson, Mass.) ON: When I came in, Palmer, the previous CEO, was preparing to settle on Intel's terms. I couldn't accept that, and this shows that that was the proper choice. We will be reinvesting the fines from Intel into new infrastructure, and should be opening a new plant someplace in the US within six months. I thank everyone who's expressed their support of our cause. (CNN) Reporter: Intel's stock fell twenty points on the news. (splice-crackle) 3167/Confusion/17: Reading about strongarm boards/systems.
